Nigeria internet users increase to 97 million – NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, on Sunday, said the number of internet users on Nigeria’s telecoms networks has hit 97.21 million, up from the 95.37 million recorded in August.

The telecoms regulatory body made the disclosure in its Monthly Internet Subscriber Data for September, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria.

The data revealed that internet users on both Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks, increased by 1.84 million in September.

The data showed that of the 97.21 million internet users in September, 97.06 million were on GSM networks, while 151,816 users were on CDMA networks.

However, the CDMA operators lost 367 internet users, after recording 151,816 in September, against 152,183 in August.

MTN has 41.84 million subscribers browsing the internet on its network.
NCC explained that MTN recorded an increase of 423,448 internet subscribers in September, after recording 41.41 million in August.

According to the data, Globacom has 21.89 million subscribers surfing the net on its network in September. About 20.77 million surfed the internet on the network in August.

Airtel had 17.73 million internet users in September as against 17.49 million customers recorded in August.

The data showed that internet users on the Airtel network increased by 235,941 in September.

NCC also said that Etisalat had 15.59 million customers who browsed the internet in September, against the 15.54 million users in August.

The data showed that those browsing the net on Etisalat’s network rose by 57,061 in the month of September.

The NCC data also revealed that the CDMA operators, Multi-Links and Visafone, had a joint total of 151,816 internet users on their networks in September.

It showed that the only two surviving CDMA networks in the country recorded a decrease of 367 internet subscribers in the month under review, from the 152,183 users they recorded in August.

According to the data, Visafone has a decrease of 393 customers surfing the internet in September, as it has 151,530, compared to the 151,923 users in the month of August.

Multi-Links had 286 internet users in September, adding 26 customers from the August record of 260 users.

The increase in the use of the internet in the month of September showed that more Nigerians were embracing data as the country moves towards achieving 30 per cent broadband penetration by 2018. (NAN)

             The campusboy was part of those going farther, Then they got to MINI-CAMPUS and now they were sure they had lost the battle, but the lady amidst them shouted out with joy "Wow, I finally made it to mini-campus this will be in my record" then all their faces lit up. So they decided to go to their various hostels on bikes. They had done the unthinkable, so everybody started leaving, The campusboy's friend also left with the thought that the campusboy won't be far behind, but when the campusboy checked his pockets for "T.FARE" (tramsport fare) that was when he knew that his own trek had just began.to be continued

Tambuwal rewards cleanest communities with N2.25m

As part of efforts to fulfill his promise when he inaugurated the Special End-of-month Environmental Sanitation in October, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Sunday gave out N 2.25 million as reward to the three cleanest communities in Sokoto metropolis and its environs.

A statement by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Imam Imam, said the N1 million top prize was claimed by Zone One, made up of Nigerian Army’s Giwa Barracks, Old Airport road, Offa road and Dambuwa areas.

The second prize of N750,000 was claimed by Zone Three made up of Sultan Palace, Gidan Haki and Kofar Atiku, while the third prize of N500,000 was won by Zone 10 which comprises Mabera, Mana, Salame and Ali Akilu roads.

The statement said the winning districts were presented with their monetary prizes, trophies and certificates by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal in Sokoto.

Tambuwal commended the zones for the enthusiasm shown during the sanitation.

The statement also quoted him as stressing the need to keep environment clean and should not end with the collection of the money.as reported by vanguardnews

Smith goes on to explain that his main goal in life is to "heal the entire planet," just like "a superhero would do." He also reveals that in 10 years he plans to disappear from the spotlight and help the world from an undisclosed location.

"You will no longer know where I am, who I spend my time with, the clothes that I wear, if I have kids, if I don't have kids, you will not know," Smith says. "I will be out of the sight of all people. In Nigeria, a new wave of dance culture swept the youths off their feet when the sensational duo of Paul and Peter Okoye arrived on the Nigerian music scene. In the late 80s and early 90s, Felixx and Moxxyz ruled the dance floor. Since their career reached the passive mode, there was no strong role model for dance in Nigeria for almost two decades. Right now, with thanks to P-square, Nigerian music videos have become incomplete without dance and dancers who were yet to be featured in a musical video have no boasting right.

Hence, in an effort to boost dance, the national telecommunications operator, Globacom, in August announced its sponsorship of a reality television competition, Dance with Peter, a project promoted by sensational dancer, Peter Okoye, one half of P-square.
This marked a significant shift from singing talent hunts which followers of entertainment in Nigeria and Africa are used to. Project Fame, Nigerian Idol, Idol West Africa, Glo Naija Sings, X-Factor and Techno Own the Stage are concrete indicators that music reality shows have received all the attention. But Globacom is prepared to change that. Dance with Peter, which is currently ruling the airwaves in Nigeria and Ghana, is intended to discover the best dancer in West Africa.
Representatives of Globacom announced at the launch of the programme that Dance with Peter was designed to promote and glamourise the dance culture among West Africans and assist those who wish to dance professionally to discover their prodigious talents.                                 

Judges at the competition are Peter Okoye; dance legend and Guinness Book recorder holder for longest dance, Kafayat Shafau Ameh, popularly known as Kaffy; dance instructor, Don Flexx, while Ehis Okoegule of MTV Base is the host.
